Bogota hosts the World Summit of Nobel Peace Laureates

The United Nations (UN) has confirmed that Bogota will host the World Summit of Nobel Peace Prizes held every year. This event seeks to harness the visibility, experience and knowledge of the Nobel Prizes to advance in the consolidation of the peace.

The event will take place for the first time in Latin America from February 2 to 5, 2017, which will be characterized as democratic, participatory, reconciling, inclusive, tolerant and collaborative. The event seeks to be an activator of conversations and discussions on various issues related to reconciliation, democracy, respect, peacebuilding  and participation.

The postulation of Bogotá as the venue for the summit was the result of the leadership of the Cámara de Comercio de Bogotá, representing the business community of the city and a demonstration by civil society to advance in the reflection on the challenges of peacebuilding later of the end the internal armed conflict.

The realization of the event was confirmed by Ekaterina Zagladina, president of the secretariat that organizes the meeting every year. Who said a few words about the reason why Bogota was selected as the venue for the event: “On behalf of the Nobel Peace Laureates, we hope to celebrate the 2017 summit successfully. We selected Bogotá for its ability to evolve and respond to the challenge of peace” Likewise, this event is held annually since 1999 in cities that represent milestones for world peace such as Hiroshima, Warsaw, Paris or Berlin.

In the case of Colombia, the country is living a historic moment. 50 years of armed confrontation is ending  by the means of dialogue and negotiation. This peace agreement brings hope not only to Colombians, but also to everyone. For this reason, Bogota as a capital was selected to share our joy and our long-term commitment to building sustainable peace. In fact, it was announced that once the Summit is over, Bogotá will be declared World Peace Capital (recognition that will carry for a year and a half).

Another merit of the event is being led by young people, who must play an essential role since it is motivating future generations to take control of the future of the city, region and country.

Finally as a travel agency, Bogota Pass has acquired the commitment to promote tourism that highlights the country’s wealth and motivates the tourist to know the new stage of our country. With responsable and tolerant tours, promoting local development as a contribution to sustainable peace.
